When Ellen told us about the next team activity last Monday, I freaked out. It usually makes me nervous to work with people I don’t know. The members in my team were exactly that: strangers. I only knew their names, but I had never had a conversation with them. At the end I found out that all this nervousness was self created and that it was actually easy to work with my team partners.
We agreed in class to send our suggestions on reading materials by next day, then each one would read and meet through the messenger to suggest what we thought would be the best reading source. We all sent our suggestions by next day.
Then, we had agreed to meet on Wednesday at 8 to decide how we would divide the work. I got an email by one of them saying that he would be 30 minutes late. I got online anyway and waited for about an hour. After an hour and 15 minutes they got online, and apologized because they had problems finding an internet connection. Then, I really needed to leave, so we changed the meeting for next day.
We got online next day and decided to divide the information in three parts, then each one would write three to five sentences to summarize the information and would look for 3 pictures related to the information. Once we had this information one of us would start the glogster and add his information and then give the other members the password so they could add their information.
We all did this on time, so by Saturday we had finished our glogster and we got together online to talk about the final details. We talked about our final product and how we would send it to the teacher, and we did so.
I think one of the difficulties about working in team online is that we could have problems with the internet connections or we could have different working schedules and find it hard to get together at the same time.
Luckily, we managed to overcome these problems, and finish our work on time. I think I was lucky to be in a small team and to work with flexible people. Most of the time we agreed on what to do and how to do it, but I’m aware that this doesn’t happen all the time when working in teams. Thank you Blanca and Ivan.
